5 Ways to Help Your Skin This Winter & My Skincare Routine Favourites!

Welcome to Blogmas post number 3! You can read all about my take on Blogmas this year & the first post here.

The season’s change, and so should your skincare routine! As we transition into the colder months (well, pretty much three quarters of the year here in Canada), I add a bit more to my skin care routine because nothing is worse than having dry, itchy skin.

Not only should it be products you invest in your skincare routine, but also habits you should adapt in your every day life that will help achieve your skin care goals.

1. Drink plenty of water

Yes we have heard this over and over again, but honestly it is the truth! As much as we want to switch out our water intake with hot cocoa and eggnog, do not forget to keep hydrated throughout these winter months. I bought this smart water bottle to help keep track of my water intake (it also reminds you to drink water!) and I noticed a huge change in the appearance of my skin.

2. Invest in a humidifier

As the cold creeps in, our thermostat creeps up! This will pull out any remaining moisture in the air. Invest in a humidifier to tackle replenishing your skin throughout the evening and wake up hydrated! This one or this one are functional and great for multi-uses!

3. Exfoliate your lips after brushing your teeth

Pucker up buttercup! We do not want to forget about our lips. Especially now more than ever with everyone wearing masks, our lips will lose the moisture they desperately need in the cold months. Exfoliate to remove dead skin and slather on good lip balm throughout the day. This lip mask is a life saver – once again, tackle the dry lips throughout the evening!

4. Lower the shower water temperature!

No, you don’t have to freeze yourself, but as tempting as it may be to take a long, hot, steamy shower during winter, your skin will thank you for a shorter, lukewarm shower (or bath!). It is less irritating on your skin and less likely to strip away your skin’s natural oils. Don’t forget to use a body moisturizer to lock in moisture right after your pat yourself dry.

5. Have a hydrating morning & evening skincare routine

Including all those above habits as well as investing in hydrating products for your morning and evening skincare routine, your skin will love you for it! As mentioned earlier, with wearing masks in addition to the colder weather, your skin is begging for all the hydration it can get. Be sure to watch the type of products you use and reach out to a dermatologist if you are struggling finding the right skincare products for your skin. Skincare is not a one size fits all solution. By keeping up with your morning and evening skincare routine, you can be sure to start the day feeling moisturized and end the day replenishing your skin while you sleep (yay for beauty sleep!).

See below for my current skincare routine favourites!

These options are affordable but it is always worth it to invest in your skin.

I have tried and used these products for months and I know they work well for my dry skin. As I transition to really extreme cold temperatures here in Canada, I have invested over the past eight years in more medical grade high-end skincare routine that you can see here. Skinmedica has truly worked for my skin and every time I use the full routine consistently, my skin is glowing & hydrated.

I hope my tips and sharing my favourite products encouraged you to up your skin care habits and routine to stay hydrated this winter. Stay warm and cozy this winter and take care of the skin you’re in.

Ultimate Gift Guide for the Homebody

Welcome to Blogmas post number 2! You can read all about my take on Blogmas this year & the first post here.

Do you know someone who is part of the amazing “stay-at-home” club? We are a club solely dedicated to embracing the homebody lifestyle (even pre-pandemic!). We are typically the ones asking for the delivery drivers to hide our Amazon packages from our partners! Amazon & online shops sure do help around this time of year when it is hard to shop in stores (global pandemic reasons), or even in general around this busy time of year, but also perfect for those that prefer to shop in the comfort of their own home (hot beverage or wine in hand preferably!)

As Christmas is fast approaching, I thought of no better way to start the first week of posts by sharing a gift guide that is close to my warm, homebody, introverted self. Although this year and especially this time of year, we all are embracing the inner warmth of the homebody spirit a little more than normal, this gift guide is perfect to snag a few items for that perfect person in your life (or hey, maybe even yourself). All of these gifts are under $100.

  1. Back & Neck Massager – I think the 23,000 plus reviews speak for itself on this one! Just imagine cuddled up, with this piece of heaven gently massaging your back and neck! Sounds like heaven to me.
  2. Silk Sleepmask – A luxurious sleep mask with anti aging benefits? Talk about beauty sleep!
  3. Bamboo Bathtub Caddy Tray – Add those bubbles, grab a good book or pop a relaxing Christmas love story movie and enjoy right in the comfort of your tub! I love this one also!
  4. Rose Quartz Roller – Always the top of my self-care routine must haves! Reduce puffiness, and enhance your skin’s natural glow with your own in-home mini spa night! This one and this one is also a great set!
  5. 52 Lists for Calm (Journaling Inspiration) – Put the device down and enjoy this journal that includes lists and tips designed to soothe the (homebody) stressed out soul!
  6. Essential Oil Diffuser – Improve your surroundings at home with this incredible aromatherapy device. It’s perfect for everyone!
  7. Wine Glasses – I love a good set of wine glasses to go with a cozy movie, and perfectly paired wine. I also have this set that is stunning, simple and I get a lot of compliments on them!
  8. OUAI Chill Pills – First off, how fitting and hilarious! Perfect bath bomb gift for the homebody bath lover (and those with a good sense of humour)
  9. Comfy Slippers – Is there any other way to encompass the homebody life without a good pair of cozy warm fuzzy slippers? These ones here are also a fan favourite!
  10. Hymalian Salt Lamp – The ever so popular Hymalian Salt Lamp is popular for a reason. Boost your mood and mind with this warm amber glow. They even have this one specifically designed for SAD (seasonal affective disorder) to help with those winter blues.
  11. Candle Accessory Set – It is a given that most homebodies love a good candle. But are they taking care of it properly? The perfect Candle Care set is one of those must have items that us candle lovers forget to have in home. This one is also a nice set.
  12. Bluetooth Turntable/ Record Player – These have definitely upped in popularity over the past couple years. Yes, streaming music from your phone is nice, but have you ever grabbed a record, placed it in a turntable, closed your eyes and enjoyed the music, the good old fashioned way?
  13. Knit Throw Blanket – Obviously what is home comfort living without a good throw blanket?
  14. Media Bed Tray – Nothing screams homebody than the person that loves to eat, work and enjoy all the small things from the comfort of their bed! A tray to hold all my goodies, while sitting in bed, yes please!
  15. Coffee Body Scrub – A good pair with your in-home spa essentials for the homebody is a great body scrub!

I hope you enjoyed all of today’s cozy gift ideas for the homebody in your life! In case you missed it, I’ve also shared a white elephant gift exchange gift guides here and in the LIKEtoKNOW.it app. The holidays can be overwhelming and I hope with the few gift ideas I have provided take some of the stress off of you! Focus on you and the quality time with your family (pets and all!) Thank you so much for reading!

BLOGMAS 2020 | The Christmas Tag

Happy First of December! You bet I have the Holiday decor and music out, candle lit, Christmas wallpaper in the background, and enjoying a hug in a mug as I write this. I am so excited to share with you that I will be participating in Blogmas this year (my altered version that is!)

What is Blogmas?

The best way to describe Blogmas is as an advent calendar for the blogging world! (Most) bloggers will have a topic they will write about everyday for the month of December, typically leading up till Christmas eve or day! The blog posts will be more Winter/ Christmas/ Holiday themed!

What should we expect from you and what is your altered version?

As a busy stay at home mom of two boys as well entering my third trimester of pregnancy, I do not want to bite off more than I can chew right from the start! I am committing to three posts a week. Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, there will be a new blog post mostly geared towards Christmas/ Winter/ Holiday themes! I will be also committing to posting after Christmas as well as I have a few post-Christmas & New Year type posts I would like to incorporate!

So… for my first post of Blogmas… Light the candle, curl up with some hot cocoa and enjoy a little read…

The Christmas Tag!

Why not start out Blogmas with a few popular Christmas questions:

What’s your favourite holiday movie?

This one is incredibly tough and I have my favourite Christmas holiday movies list coming, but I think once we start getting around to the holidays, I immediately get excited for Home Alone and A Christmas Story.

What’s your favourite Christmas colour?

White, White and more White! I know that sounds crazy but I love the warm white lights on a house and how it reflects so nicely against the snow. I love a white lit tree and white lights on all the garland. It’s simple but classic! (It must be the warm white – the blue light to me is a no no haha!)

Do you like to stay in your PJs or dress up for Christmas?

Hmm, I would prefer to stay in my PJS but it is nice to get dressed up cause that’s more rare!

If you could only buy one person a present this year, who would it be?

That’s hard! I have two (plus one on the way) kiddos! But if I had to buy just one person something, it would be my fiance. He has given us so much and is my rock. He deserves everything and so much more!

Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?

Growing up we used to do the big relative gift opening on Christmas Eve, and on Christmas morning we would open presents from Santa, stocking and our immediate family gifts. Now that I have my own family, we typically will have a Christmas dinner with presents on Christmas Eve and another day (Boxing day or another day), and then my family will open our gifts together on Christmas Day.

Have you ever built a gingerbread house?

Of course! I would prefer to decorate cookies though.

What do you like to do on your Christmas break?

Toboggan, snowboard, relax and watch Holiday movies, go to see Christmas light displays!

Any Christmas wishes?

Well as we are currently in a global pandemic (2020 ugh), I wish for us to be able to go back to a normal where we can see our family and friends, give them a hug and socialize.

Favourite Christmas smell?

Cinnamon or the smell of a fire!

Favourite Christmas meal or treat?

Stuffing! Hands down.. That’s a meal right? I love Gingerbread cookies (they have to be soft though) and peppermint bark (which I want to attempt to make from scratch this year).

What are you doing for the holidays this year?

As mentioned before, with our COVID-19 regulations, we are currently on a lockdown of no social gatherings outside of our home cohort. Meaning, if this extends to Christmas, we will only be celebrating a dinner in my house with my family.

We also want to visit a drive-thru lights display, go tobogganing (well, I drink hot cocoa watching from a distance), and lots of movies!

What’s your favourite holiday drink?

Hot chocolate or wine (really any wine any time… but especially being pregnant I am enjoying more and more hot chocolate this time of year).

What’s your favourite holiday/Christmas song?

Stay tuned for my Christmas playlist. But my favourite is All I Want for Christmas is You – How can that not get you in the Christmas Spirit.

What’s the weirdest gift you’ve ever received?

It wasn’t the gift itself that was the weirdest, it was the box it came in! Apparently on Amazon, you can buy joke/ prank gift boxes. Like this one here and here! I was seriously so confused for a good 5-10 minutes because I didn’t realize it was a joke box! They are great for White Elephant gifts.

What is most important to you about the holidays?

Spending time with family and close friends.

Are you participating in Blogmas or any Christmas/ Holiday type content creation over this next month? Let me know! Also, I would love to see your responses to these questions too!

See you Thursday!
