Welcome to Blogmas post number 3! You can read all about my take on Blogmas this year & the first post here.
The season’s change, and so should your skincare routine! As we transition into the colder months (well, pretty much three quarters of the year here in Canada), I add a bit more to my skin care routine because nothing is worse than having dry, itchy skin.
Not only should it be products you invest in your skincare routine, but also habits you should adapt in your every day life that will help achieve your skin care goals.
1. Drink plenty of water
Yes we have heard this over and over again, but honestly it is the truth! As much as we want to switch out our water intake with hot cocoa and eggnog, do not forget to keep hydrated throughout these winter months. I bought this smart water bottle to help keep track of my water intake (it also reminds you to drink water!) and I noticed a huge change in the appearance of my skin.
2. Invest in a humidifier
As the cold creeps in, our thermostat creeps up! This will pull out any remaining moisture in the air. Invest in a humidifier to tackle replenishing your skin throughout the evening and wake up hydrated! This one or this one are functional and great for multi-uses!
3. Exfoliate your lips after brushing your teeth
Pucker up buttercup! We do not want to forget about our lips. Especially now more than ever with everyone wearing masks, our lips will lose the moisture they desperately need in the cold months. Exfoliate to remove dead skin and slather on good lip balm throughout the day. This lip mask is a life saver – once again, tackle the dry lips throughout the evening!
4. Lower the shower water temperature!
No, you don’t have to freeze yourself, but as tempting as it may be to take a long, hot, steamy shower during winter, your skin will thank you for a shorter, lukewarm shower (or bath!). It is less irritating on your skin and less likely to strip away your skin’s natural oils. Don’t forget to use a body moisturizer to lock in moisture right after your pat yourself dry.
5. Have a hydrating morning & evening skincare routine
Including all those above habits as well as investing in hydrating products for your morning and evening skincare routine, your skin will love you for it! As mentioned earlier, with wearing masks in addition to the colder weather, your skin is begging for all the hydration it can get. Be sure to watch the type of products you use and reach out to a dermatologist if you are struggling finding the right skincare products for your skin. Skincare is not a one size fits all solution. By keeping up with your morning and evening skincare routine, you can be sure to start the day feeling moisturized and end the day replenishing your skin while you sleep (yay for beauty sleep!).

I have tried and used these products for months and I know they work well for my dry skin. As I transition to really extreme cold temperatures here in Canada, I have invested over the past eight years in more medical grade high-end skincare routine that you can see here. Skinmedica has truly worked for my skin and every time I use the full routine consistently, my skin is glowing & hydrated.
